In 2015, I responded to a “Call” and walked the 800 km “Camino”, the ancient walk of St. James, the Apostle to arrive at Santiago de Compostela, in Galicia Spain. The soles of my feet, protected by simple but sturdy sandals, encountered the variations in the terrain of the mountains, plains, roads, highways. As a sole traveler, for hours I only heard the whispering wind along the fields. I would be so pleased to find flowers by the wayside, companions greeting me and encouraging me with their beauty and joyful dance. They were a change from the monotony, offering some respite. Wanting to capture this small pleasure I painted “Floral Respite” with the intention of reminding myself that we all need breaks, even small changes of routine, to give us a moment to rest and refocus.
The field of gold with fresh flowers sprouting up give a sense of peace, joy and tranquility to a quiet study, bedroom, living room.
