The Yearning – 24″ x 24″ x 1.5″ – Acrylic on Gallery Wrapped Canvas
I was at an art residency at the lovely town of Picton, Ontario, in cottage country. I had been here many times with family to go swimming at SandBanks beach nearby. The shops and restaurants along the Main Street are a huge draw, especially the vintage store that was there. I went here for an art residency one summer for three weeks. I had a whole art studio to myself with no distractions from family, friends, chores, etc. I spent each day taking photos of the countryside, making and sharing meals with other artists, and finally spending quality time in the art studio. Every evening I took a walk along a country road. I noticed there were dead branches along the path. This dead branch touched me. It seemed to be reaching up to the sky, as if longing to live again. It made me realize how I need to make the most of my life and not take it for granted. It also gave me hope as it made me think of not just my mortality, but immortality.
