37 For just like the days of Noah were, so the coming of the Son of Man will be. 38 For in those days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day Noah entered the ark. 39 And they knew nothing until the flood came and took them all away. It will be the same at the coming of the Son of Man.
Matthew 24:37-39
This painting was inspired by Matthew 24: 37-39. In the Matthew 24, Jesus warns the disciples about the Second Coming, saying it will be like the days of Noah, eating, drinking, marrying, oblivious to Noah’s warnings. In this painting, I brought the days of Noah to life where Noah is entering the ark with his family. The people are mocking him nearby as they “party”. As the flood comes, Noah’s ark is tossed about but the occupants are safe. In the same way, in the forefront modern day young people drinking, eating, and making merry. Just as the flood came, the Son of Man, Christ is coming. The flood water is about to pour onto the candle to possibly extinguish it, as an indicator that time is running out. The time is now to “get in the ark” and follow Jesus.
I think it is very easy to see today that there are many people giving in or even seeking comfort, self-indulgence, luxury, even in depraved ways. It is as if they believe there is no God. If Jesus were to come now, who would be ready?
