The Gift of Rejuvenation, Refreshment and Revitalization
While in the middle of the El Camino, the 800 km walk of the Saint James, the Apostle, I was suffering under the sweltering sun. It was midday and I had been walking since before dawn. The coolness of the morning was long gone, and I was in the meseta, where there were few if any trees around to offer shade. My destination was nearing, but I felt I could not go much more in the heat. However, if I took a break, it would be even hotter in the afternoon. How delightful it was to see a stream of water suddenly flow alongside the path. I did not even have to step in it. I felt so rejuvenated, refreshed, and revitalized. Just as Psalmist says, “He Leadeth me to still waters. He restores my soul”, Psalm 23
This painting always reminds me that “this too shall pass”. We just don’t know how close we are. What we do know is that not persevering will only delay the inevitable suffering that is part of life. God Is with us, and we can trust in that.
