I have been drawn to art throughout my life. Inspired by the Bible stories and nature, I would use crayons and my imagination to draw from scenes from the Bible. I won art contests and was encouraged to become an artist, but chose another route in the science field. Though away from art for several decades, I visited galleries, churches, basilicas, and monasteries, all over the world during business trips. I  returned to making art after a life-changing encounter with a street artist who reminded me not only that I was an artist, but that I owed it to myself and the world to find the time to make art. This was further reinforced from an experience I had visiting Avila, Spain. I was struck by the “murallas”, or walls that were ancient. However, I was mesmerized by the statue of St. Teresa of Avila, outside the walls. I knew nothing about her, as I saw her head poised, looking up at the sky, I realized how God had been pushed into the sidelines of my life. This set me on trajectory that led to a deeper understanding and appreciation for my Catholic faith.  It convinced me that art could change hearts.

I am drawn to the traditional painting style, though I like to experiment with a variety of media.  I mastered watercolours, and then acrylics, and am finally working with oils, becoming more confident with each painting. I would say that my passion is expressing through facial expression and posture. Each person goes through me, as I need to know what they felt before I paint them. I paint from my imagination, but also do portraits.  Sometimes I begin with a statue, but make it come to life, making it my own creation.  For the backgrounds, I begin using photos but also rely on my memories and feelings experienced in places I know.  Mixed media collages are done for the mere experience of having some fun in between the intensity of my representational work.
